With the continued cost of living crisis many are experiencing financial hardship and turning to food banks for support.
With so much demand, on 30th January, the Canterbury & District Food Bank posted a Valentines appeal to replenish their increasingly empty shelves following both a drop in donations and more demand for support.
Following the support provided by residents of Canterbury’s Graylaw House via a reverse advent calendar in 2022; Brachers, Craven Street Wealth and Canterbury BID have responded in collecting food and household items that are red. This includes items such as soups, pasta sauces, ketchup, red label tea, tinned tomatoes, kidney beans and more.
Canterbury & District Food Bank began as a community project in 2011, registering as a charity in August 2013 to prevent or relief poverty and financial hardship in the Canterbury City Council district. The charity provides three-day food parcels to individuals and families in short term financial crisis across Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and surrounding villages.
Craven Street Wealth Director and Chartered Financial Planner, Tim Maakestad wishes to “Thank the residents of Graylaw House for continuing our great work from before Christmas in arranging this, the teams for supporting and all those that work and volunteer at the Canterbury Food Bank.”
Transaction Reporting Analyst & Corporate Social Responsibility champion, Ruth Tomkin-Munro adds “We believe that it’s important for us, as part of the local community here in Canterbury, to do what we can to help out those who may need it. Well done Canterbury Food Bank for providing this service which has proven invaluable to many, particularly through these cold winter months”.
